Gwendolijn Boonekamp was trained at the Wageningen University, the Netherlands.
She obtained her Masters degree in Consumers Studies, with a specialization in Communication. After her studies she worked in Valencia, Spain for 6 years, with ETC Co-founder Concha Colomer at the Valencian Institute for studies in public health, working in different research and policy projects related to health promotion. Once returned to the Netherlands in 1998 she worked as a project coordinator at the Dutch Olympic Committee and Dutch Sports Federation (NOC*NSF). Since 2005 she is lecturing at the Institute of Sports and Exercise of the HAN University of Applied Sciences on health promotion issues. Her main interests are applying an assets approach to empower people to improve their quality of life.
